Rock Chips, Roof Glass, and Reasonably-Priced Tint: What All-Brite Clients Told Us This August

Late summer brings the same two questions to every All-Brite location: “Can this rock chip actually get fixed, or do I need a whole new windshield?” and “Is now a good time to finally get my windows tinted?”

Both came up constantly this month across Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Woodstock, and Calgary — so here’s a straight answer to each, built around what our clients actually asked us and said about us.

Why Do Windshields Get Rock Chips in Late Summer?

Short answer: More highway driving, more loose gravel from summer road work, and bigger swings between hot afternoons and cool evenings — all three stress a windshield at once, and that’s when a small stone strike turns into a chip that spreads.

Summer road construction kicks loose gravel onto highways right when road-trip and commute traffic peaks. A chip that would sit quietly in April can spread fast once the glass heats up in the sun and then cools overnight.

Ben in Kitchener saw it firsthand — a rock chip on the way to the cottage turned into a full windshield replacement. He called out Gabriela on our Kitchener Auto team by name for the turnaround: 48 hours, start to finish.

Not every job is a straightforward chip, either. Cheryl, also in Kitchener, needed a full windshield replacement and panoramic roof glass replaced on her Tesla — a job that takes more specialized parts and know-how than a standard vehicle. She praised the professionalism of the whole process and gave a second shoutout to Gabriela for going above and beyond. If you’re searching for Tesla or EV glass replacement specifically, that’s a service we handle at our Kitchener Auto shop.

And in Waterloo, Chantal told us her vehicle has had multiple stone chips over time — a known issue with that model’s design. If your vehicle is one that tends to catch more than its share of chips, mention that to your Glass Expert; it changes whether repair or full replacement is the right call going forward.

Is a Small Chip Really Worth Fixing Right Away?

Short answer: Yes — a chip caught early is usually a quick repair or a couple-day turnaround; the same chip ignored for a few weeks can turn into a full windshield replacement.

Safety comes first here, not just cost. A small chip in your line of sight or near the edge of the windshield can compromise the structural role the glass plays in a rollover or airbag deployment. Waiting rarely saves money — it just moves you from a quick repair to a bigger job, the way it did for Ben above.

Is August a Good Time to Get Window Tinting Done?

Short answer: Yes — late-summer heat is exactly when clients notice the difference tinting makes, and it’s a good window to get it installed before fall schedules fill up.

Ken in Woodstock had sun control window tinting done this month and left us a 5-star review, calling out the reasonable price — and he also got a handwritten thank-you note from Jody on our team, which he mentioned as a nice touch. That personal-touch detail is exactly what “family owned and operated” is supposed to mean day to day, not just a line on our trucks. Arnold, also in Woodstock, left us a straight 5-star rating the same week.

All-Brite installs XPEL film exclusively — we don’t run other film brands through our shops. That’s a deliberate quality and warranty decision, so if you’re comparing quotes elsewhere, ask what film brand is actually going on your glass.

What Else Falls Under “Glass Replacement”? It’s Not Just Windshields

Glass replacement covers more than auto glass. Kerry in Calgary had a frameless glass shower enclosure with a sliding door installed this month — a 4-star review that liked the price, the fast site-measurement turnaround, and the finished look. Worth mentioning honestly: the install itself ran longer than originally quoted (about 6 hours versus the 3–4 hours estimated), and she told us she wasn’t bothered given how it turned out. Complex frameless glass work sometimes takes longer to get right than a first estimate suggests, and we’d rather be upfront about that than rush it — the same principle behind why speed isn’t the only thing that matters for storefront glass, too.

Not every review comes with a story — Don in Guelph left us a straight 5-star rating this month, no note attached, and we’ll happily take it.

This Month at All-Brite

Week 2 brought our Flash Day promotion on Wednesday, August 12 — the first client at each location to book Film Installation or Screen/Broken Glass Replacement that day won a $50 gift card. Congrats to our winners, and thank you to Ben, Cheryl, Chantal, Ken, Arnold, Kerry, and Don for taking the time to tell us how it went this month — and to Gabriela and Jody for the reason two of those reviews got written in the first place.
