Windshield Repair & Replacement

Do I need a windshield repair or replacement?
If your windshield is chipped, we always try to repair it instead of replacing the entire windshield. Repairs are faster, cheaper, and more environmentally conscious.

A cracked windshield is a different issue. In that case, All-Brite recommends a replacement. And we can even come to you to do the job.

Replace your windshield if:

  • There is a chip larger than a Toonie or it obscures the driver’s vision
  • A crack extends more than 1” into the critical vision area
  • Any damage obstructing the driver’s line of sight

There are additional reasons we might recommend replacing your windshield. We can offer the right advice once we’ve done an inspection.

All-Brite’s skilled windshield experts are always ready to complete a hassle-free windshield replacement for any make or model of vehicle, all with our red carpet service. We only use high-quality OEEM (Original Equivalent Equipment Manufacture) and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) glass and adhesives, so you can trust the product and workmanship. The entire process takes approximately 60-90 minutes and you’re safe to drive away 15 minutes after the job is done.

We now offer recalibration for many vehicle types, using our state-of-the-art Opti-Aim Recalibration System.

Guarantees – ask about our “industry-leading” glass protection on most windshields.

In most cases, the process is covered by insurance. You can drive away immediately, knowing our workmanship is guaranteed for the life of your vehicle. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.

By 2020, more than 44% of new auto glass production will include ADAS features.

Wiper Blades

Four Signs You Should Replace Your Wiper Blades
Drivers use their vehicles for basic daily needs, like commuting to work or dropping kids off at school. They may not spend much time thinking about maintenance, aside from oil changes and tire rotations. Automotive upkeep is one of the last items of concern. Part of the problem is a lack of awareness that every part of a vehicle is depreciable and eventually needs to be maintained or replaced.

For those who turn the key and go without worrying about maintenance needs, the time between wiper blade changes could be a few months to a year too long. It’s only when the blades can no longer properly clean the windshield that vehicle owners decide they need new ones. If you see any of the four signs listed below, then it’s time to replace your vehicle’s wiper blades. TRICO also has a guide to help you decide which blades are best for you.

Leaving Streaks on Your Windshield

Bent or damaged blades become less effective at clearing your windshield of rain, snow, sleet, and other road elements. Under grueling pressure, blades eventually leave streaks because the rubber is no longer snug against the windshield.

In many cases, wear or blade damage is the cause of these streaks. Wipers are rendered ineffective when the rubber element is tattered, or the blade is bent. For drivers who live in a sunny, dry climate, long periods of UV exposure can also dry out the rubber elements in your wiper blades, causing a breakdown. Dried-out blades have a very difficult time gliding smoothly and snugly across the windshield.

Chatter Caused by Extreme Temperatures

Extreme heat or low temperatures can cause chatter, which refers to the blades’ inability to smoothly pivot back and forth. Permanent set, caused by exposure to extreme heat, occurs when the rubber element is fixed in one position. Conversely, frigid temperatures can stiffen the element, causing cold set and limiting wiping abilities. Chatter can be addressed using premium beam wiper blades, offering longer-lasting rubber and better performance in any weather condition.

Here is a breakdown of the differences between beam and conventional wiper blades.

Squeaking Noises During Operation

Unpleasant, high-pitched noises can be a sign your blades aren’t working properly. If you hear squeaks every time you turn on your wipers, it could indicate a number of issues, including:

• Debris or grime build-up, a problem you can fix yourself with window cleaner
• A dry windshield caused by a lack of washer fluid, which is a good reason to keep up with your washer fluid refills
• Worn or damaged rubber elements causing wiper structure to touch, and potentially damage, windshield glass

Aging and Advanced Wear

Wiper blades spend their service life addressing rain, snow, sleet, road debris, bugs, and bird droppings. These harsh elements inevitably lead to wear and aging, making replacement a priority. A general rule is to change wiper blades every six months, though extreme conditions could necessitate a shorter time before wipers need to be replaced.

When your safety is involved, rely on Aquapel.

Insurance Claims

Am I covered for windshield insurance claims?
Good news! Generally, your policy covers chips and cracks in your windshield. If your auto insurance policy includes comprehensive coverage, it should be airtight. Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your vehicle that isn’t caused by a collision and includes coverage for falling or flying objects, especially stones.
If your vehicle’s insurance policy does not include comprehensive coverage, then windshield damage may be up to your insurer. Our experience is that most insurers in Canada will honour this kind of claim in good faith, as long as it doesn’t happen often.

Windshield replacements may only cost between $160-$300 for older cars, but replacing one on a newer car could set you back as much as $3,500. Incorporating all of the technical calibrations for sensors and safety cameras can be expensive, both for replacement parts and for the labour required. In general, exotic cars come with higher repair costs.

What should I do if my windshield is chipped?
If your car’s windshield is chipped, you should get it repaired as quickly as possible. It’s typically much cheaper to fix a windshield than to replace one, even if you don’t have the coverage on your policy.

Repairing a chip is a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole windshield. Glass repair technology is surprisingly effective, and the repair facilities can often fix large or strangely shaped chips. Even small cracks can be repaired, but if it becomes bigger than a quarter, your windshield will likely get worse. This as a general guideline rather than a hard and fast rule, though!
